Properties and Applications of Titanium Bars

Grade 2 Pure Titanium Bars have many desirable properties including high strength, low density, and corrosion resistance. The strength of titanium bars comes from the interstitial phases of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon that form during solidification. Grade 1 titanium has low interstitial elements and is highly ductile but weaker. Higher grades have increased strength from interstitial hardening. The low density, about 60% of steel, makes titanium useful in applications requiring weight savings. The titanium also forms a passive oxide layer that provides excellent resistance to corrosion in many environments. Key applications for titanium bars include aircraft structural components, medical and dental implants, power generation, chemical processing, marine hardware, and sports equipment. The combination of high strength, low weight, and corrosion resistance make titanium an ideal metal for demanding applications.
